Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) & Students of Orange Acting Responsibly (S.O.A.R.)

The Orange Public Schools and the Orange Police Department work collaboratively to meet the needs of our school community.  Orange Police Department's School Resource Officers play an integral part in educating our students on safety and social awareness.  Below are the planned programs that take place each year.

Kindergarten: School Resource Officers use the D.A.R.E. Program's resources to educate students on safety.  Topics such as stranger danger, playground safety and awareness, emotional intelligence, and emergency protocols are taught and discussed.

Fifth Grade: School Resource Officers have created a D.A.R.E. alternative called Students of Orange Acting Responsibly (S.O.A.R.). The goal of this program is to empower students with practical tools and knowledge they can use both in and out of school. Over the course of the program, students will learn about topics such as internet and social media safety, stress management, peer pressure and bullying, communication and respect, and tobacco, vaping, and alcohol education are taught and discussed.

Sixth Grade: School Resource Officers continue with S.O.A.R. enhancement lessons further educating students on drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention.

Our School Resource Officers (Detective Artabane and Detective Bailey) are always available to help students, staff, and parents navigate difficult social and emotional situations.  Please reach out to your child's school for their contact information.
