At THS, we believe that combining academics with a strong arts program offers our children the greatest opportunity to become well-rounded, open-minded, empowered, world citizens.

Our goal in the Art Room is to provide students with experience in a variety of media, using multiple techniques and processes, to creatively problem solve, and to discuss their solutions. Each grade level operates under the umbrella of a broad-based, art-related theme, focusing annual instruction, what we call our Essential Understandings. We continually strive for a high degree of learning, but moreover to instill a love and joy for the process of creative expression.

Please stop by the Art room to say hello and to take a peek at our work!

BIO:

Hello, All! I understand that people have requested to know a little more about me, so here goes...

First, the kids usually just call me "Mr. K". It's easy, especially for the little ones, and I kinda' like it anyway. So, please always feel free to address me that way.

I attended Western CT State University in Danbury, graduating with a BA (graphic design concentration). Subsequently, I attended Sacred Heart University, where I earned a Master's degree in Teaching and was awarded for what they deemed my "Outstanding Performance".

I then began my teaching career in Orange in 1996, serving first as a regular education teacher, assigned to a grade 5 position. I enjoyed that role tremendously for the first 13 years of my career. But, when a position opened on the Art team, I embraced the opportunity for change, and began as an Art educator. In the last 8 years, I have never second guessed that decision, for I truly love what I do. I am inspired by the children in my classes, and can only hope to reciprocate.

"Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world."

- Edward Hopper

THS Showcase of the Arts

Our annual Showcase will be planned for earlier in the spring this year! Please revisit this page to confirm date, I will post it as soon as we are able to secure it on this year's school calendar.

As always, lots of student artwork will be on display for your viewing. There'll even be some tasty snacks to enjoy, like a real gallery opening. In addition, there will be the opportunity to support our THS PTO by purchasing some wonderfully framed student artwork (most likely your student's). Framed artwork is super-reasonably priced at only $20 each, but the memory will live on forever.
